A Tragedy in Berkeley

Posted on June 16th, 2015 by Cody Hedges

By now, many have you have likely heard of the tragedy that occurred in Berkeley in the early hours of this morning. Six students tragically fell to their death when a balcony they were standing on collapsed. Five of those students were Irish and one was an Irish-American.

I wanted it to be known that none of these students were members of the Berkeley Hurling Club, but that does not mean that their loss will go unfelt. These six students traveled to Berkeley as a means to prepare themselves for their forthcoming careers. As a way to better themselves and to make themselves more competitive and successful in the future. Unfortunately, their lives were cut short in this tragic accident.

We may only be an athletic association, but we also exist to help spread and represent the culture and history of the people of Ireland. The loss of six bright, young Irish minds is something that is felt throughout the Irish community and and the loss of a loved one this early in life is something no one should have to endure. We ask that you keep the friends and families of these 3 men and 3 women in your thoughts and your prayers.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha dílse.
